EaseUS MobiSaver Review

This is a review of EaseUS Mobisaver for iOS (it also has a version for Android), a popular data recovery tool that rescues lost data on iPhones and Android smartphones.

I’m a tech guy who’s offered IT training and support over several decades, and written software reviews and how-tos for business users. I’ve taken an in-depth look at EaseUS MobiSaver to let you know how likely it is to recover your lost data.

EaseUS MobiSaver was able to locate an impressive amount of lost and deleted information on my smartphone. Unfortunately, it only found half the number of deleted files I was looking for, but I couldn’t find another data recovery application that did better. Its scan times are acceptable but not the fastest.

In this EaseUS MobiSaver review, I’ll explore the types of data the application can restore, how long this is likely to take, and weigh up your chance of success. I’ll also explore whether it’s suitable for beginners or advanced users.

Let’s get started.

EaseUS MobiSaver Overview

EaseUS MobiSaver can help you recover lost data from your smartphone, whether it be an iPhone or Android device. The software runs on your computer and scans your phone once it has been attached with a cable.

EaseUS offers several free and paid versions of MobiSaver. In most cases, these run from your Windows or Mac computer, not from your smartphone.

  • EaseUS MobiSaver for iOS Free Edition (Windows version) – free
  • EaseUS MobiSaver for iOS Pro Edition (Windows version) – $59.95
  • EaseUS MobiSaver for iOS Free Edition (Mac version) – free
  • EaseUS MobiSaver for iOS Pro Edition (Mac version) – $79.95
  • EaseUS MobiSaver for Android Free (Windows version) – free
  • EaseUS MobiSaver for Android Pro (Windows version) – $39.95
  • EaseUS MobiSaver for Android (Android version) – $8.49 in-app purchase

The Free Editions are severely limited and are only of real value when recovering iOS data from an iTunes or iCloud backup. When recovering from an iPhone, for example, you can only recover one photo or video and five contacts with each scan. It seems there is no limit to the number of notes, call history, calendars, reminders, Safari bookmarks, and timelines that can be recovered.

Note the difference in price between the Pro Editions for Windows and Mac, iOS and Android. There isn’t a Mac version that can recover data from Android devices, and only one version will actually run on your smartphone—the last one on the list—but it may offer a lower chance of data recovery.

A free trial of the Pro Edition will show you if your files can be recovered before paying for the application.

In this review, I’ll be focussing on the Mac version of EaseUS MobiSaver for iOS Pro Edition. I’ll also give some attention to the Android version.

EaseUS MobiSaver is one of the better tools for recovering lost data from smartphones. In a couple of hours, it will locate potentially thousands of lost files and let you choose the ones you want to recover.

Recovery Features

How is data recovery possible? When a file is deleted, its data isn’t actually removed—it is simply marked as being deleted. But recovery is not guaranteed. In time, as you add new information to your phone, the old data will be overwritten.

Methods of data recovery offered:

On iOS:

  • Recover from the iOS device: MobiSaver will scan your phone to locate deleted information
  • Recover from iTunes backup: If you backed up your device to iTunes you can selectively extract the data back to the phone
  • Recover from iCloud backup: If you backed up your device to iCloud, you can selectively extract the data back to your phone

On Android:

  • Recover from the Android device: MobiSaver will scan your phone to locate deleted information

Types of data that can be recovered:

On iOS:

  • Can: Contacts, notes, calendar, reminders, photos, videos, voice memos, call history, messages, WhatsApp, Kik, Safari bookmarks
  • Can’t: Music, app audio, app documents, books, note attachments, message attachments, FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, Facebook Messenger attachments, Viber, Tango, Line, WeChat, and Safari history

On Android:

  • Can: Contacts, photos, videos, music and audio, documents and app data, messages, SMS
  • Can’t: Call history, WhatsApp data

User Experience

Installing EaseUS MobiSaver to your PC or Mac is simple, as is scanning for lost data. It doesn’t require advanced technical knowledge and can restore your phone in three steps:

  1. Connect the phone to your computer
  2. Scan for lost information
  3. Select the data that you wish to recover

Unfortunately, you are required to root your Android phone (gain administrator access) before you can scan it from your PC. If you’d prefer not to do that, you can use the Android version that runs directly from your phone, or an alternative like Wondershare dr.fone that takes care of it for you.

Several users complained that the app wasn’t able to locate their phone after connecting it to the computer. That wasn’t my experience, but your mileage may vary.

Performance

Scanning for lost data can be time-consuming. How fast is EaseUS MobiSaver? I ran some informal tests to find out.

I created a test contact, photo, note, voice memo, calendar event, and Pages document on my personal 256 GB iPhone, and then deleted them. I immediately scanned my phone for lost data before it had been backed up to iCloud.

I scanned the phone using the Mac version of EaseUS MobiSaver for iOS and the total time taken was 2 hours 34 minutes. It certainly didn’t feel fast, but 256 GB of data is a lot to wade through, and MobiSaver was checking for multiple data types. Limiting the types of data being scanned for can significantly speed up a scan.

How does that compare with other iOS data recovery applications? I ran the same test on nine other programs to find out, and a number were significantly faster. In fact, five apps completed the scan in about an hour, which is a significant improvement. Two competitors were much slower, one taking six hours, and the other over 21 hours.

Effectiveness

Data recovery can never be guaranteed. How successful was EaseUS MobiSaver? It leaves a lot to be desired, and it’s not alone.

In fact, it only recovered half of the files I deleted, and no other recover app did better. Every app I tested was able to recover the contact and note. MobiSaver also recovered the voice memo and was the only app to do so.

Unfortunately, it was unable to rescue the deleted calendar event, photo, and Pages document. In fact, none of the apps I tested could recover the calendar event and Pages document, but a few were able to rescue the deleted photo.

Consider that a warning. The best way to protect the data on your phone is to back it up regularly. [1]

But that’s not the end of the story, and the rest is more positive. Besides the files I deleted, MobiSaver was able to identify thousands of additional files. Ironically, that included 43,000 photos and over 5,000 calendar items, just not the ones I wanted to recover! Other apps offered similar results, but MobiSaver located the most files in several categories.

FAQs

Is EaseUS MobiSaver safe to use?

Yes. It’s highly rated by users and will not overwrite any data on your phone. Some versions bundle third-party software, but they are not malware and you are not required to install them.

Is EaseUS MobiSaver really free?

Yes, but not really—the free version is too limited to be of practical use. I recommend you use the trial version of the Pro Edition instead. It will scan for files for free, then you decide whether you want to pay to recover them.

Why does EaseUS MobiSaver not recognize my phone?

There are a number of reasons, and EaseUS Support offers knowledge base articles to help you troubleshoot connection problems with your iPhone [2] or Android phone [3].

Alternatives

If EaseUS MobiSaver isn’t right for you, here are some alternatives I recommend.

Aiseesoft FoneLab

Aiseesoft FoneLab uses fast scans to effectively locate lost data on your iPhone or rooted Android phone. It’s also able to back up your phone and transfer files between your phone and computer. The software runs on your computer and Windows and Mac versions are available.

Tenorshare UltData

Tenorshare UltData allows you to choose the types of data to scan for, wasting even less time with its fast scans. It can recover a range of data types from iOS and rooted Android devices, and the software runs on your PC or Mac.

Wondershare dr.fone

Wondershare dr.fone is one of the slower apps I tried, but doesn’t require you to root your Android phone to recover data—the software will automatically root and unroot the phone during the recovery process. It can also recover data from iPhones, and there are versions for Windows, Mac, and Android.

Final Verdict

I recommend EaseUS MobiSaver for iOS (also has a version for Android). While it wasn’t able to recover all of the deleted files in my test, no other recovery app did better. It located an impressive number of other files that could be recovered.

The scan took a few hours and I find that acceptable when recovering valuable data. However, both Tenorshare UltData and Aiseesoft FoneLab (listed in Alternatives above) were able to scan my phone in less than an hour and recover the same amount of data. They are better choices when time is your priority.

If you have an Android phone you are required to first root it to gain sufficient control for the recovery operation. Wondershare dr.fone offers a better user experience by automatically rooting and unrooting the phone as part of its normal operation. It’s a good choice for untechnical Android users.

If you’ve lost valuable information on your smartphone, download EaseUS MobiSaver Pro Edition’s free trial to your Mac or PC and scan your phone. You’ll be able to see if the data can be rescued before you have to pay.
